Pedestrian crossing January 17, 2007

This is not exactly the way French described the situation, but this way works for many men, solving money problems and such.
One day a young man in his 30’s approached a crosswalk talking on his mobile phone. This was in England by the way. A car with Chinese couple in it stopped in front of him on the flashing red light. He established an eye contact with a driver just before stepping off the curb without considering that the driving wheel is on the right side of the car. As a result he was threatened with an axe the very next day. The question is what side of the road do you drive in China: left or right?
When I was in England I couldn’t get accustomed to the positioning of the driving wheel and while crossing the street smiled politely to women passengers till I discovered that men drivers look back at me quite suspiciously. I stopped that habit and had no problem crossing the street in England during my trip.
